Our Favorite Charities

| November 15, 2021

We support our local charities year-round, but there is something extra special about supporting charities during the holiday season. Each year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement. The tradition started in 2012 with the mission to encourage people to do good. Everyone has something to give, be it time or money, and every act of generosity counts.

These are the local charities we will be supporting this GivingTuesday:

The Cherokee Band of Warriors is an award-winning high school music program located in Canton, GA. Their staff is dedicated to providing the most professional music education in the marching and concert performing arts. By encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and contributions of one's personal best to a group effort, they create a positive environment that allows students to succeed in all aspects of life. The music programs have flourished to a membership of nearly 300 high school students.

"As the band booster president for the 2021-2023 term, I spend a lot of time with these phenomenal kids. I love watching them grow individually and as a group as they go from band camp in the summer to band competitions in the fall. My daughter, Samantha, is in the band on the drumline as a snare player. The program allows me to watch her enjoy marching band as much as I did in high school." Garrett L. Holcombe

Make a Wish Georgia works with people, communities, and businesses in Georgia to grant the wishes of children with critical illnesses. A granted wish can be a spark that helps these children believe that anything is possible. It also gives them strength and positivity to fight harder against their illnesses.

"I support Make a Wish Georgia because I love to see the joy it brings to everyone involved, including the child, parents, community, staff, and volunteers. My wife, Marissa, works with Make A Wish Georgia, and I have had the privilege to see how a granted wish can impact everyone it touches. It's life-changing." Nick Marrano

Founded in 1967, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation works towards finding cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the quality of life of people affected by these digestive diseases.  The foundation focuses on research, patient and caregiver empowerment, and educating health professionals.

"Supporting the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation is very personal to me because my mother suffered from Crohn's disease for the majority of her life and finally succumbed to complications of the disease in 2014." Scott Bechely

Bert's Big Adventure takes children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families for an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World. They provide year-round programs that continue to support the 173 families they have served so far.

"The thing I love most about Bert's Big Adventure is the after-trip support programs, like the Fairy Godparent program where volunteers will visit the child if they are in the hospital. Our world needs more of this type of dedication and support to families with sick children; they genuinely create magic for the kids."  Amber Witt

"I found Girls On The Run through my sorority, and I fell in love with the program. Teaching girls early and often that they are capable of anything they set their mind to is an amazing, and I believe as these girls grow into women, they will be the ones who change the world for the better."
